"... Does that mean you have a consistent type?"

She should probably be regretting that, but somehow she isn't.

Nita nodded. "Granted. And - okay, there are a few where I'd at least consider it."

Some of them were even already friends.

"I definitely have a type physically, but that's kind of like... extra credit, y'know? The hottest girl I've ever known is basically the opposite of that type. Like I said, something to appreciate about everyone! And that included nonhumans too, so you know."

He was very tempted to ask just how nonhuman she'd be willing to go for, but... nah, he'll save that for when he needs to tease her.

Nita snorted, bemused. "I was thinking personality, but... that works too."

Appearance was as much about how you felt about how you looked as what sort of shape you had; Nita's learned that well enough over the past couple of years.

"I'll only ever elaborate if you're planning on asking these same questions to people from other planets. How's that sound?"

If only so she can warn/'warn' her friends.

"So, uhhh... 23? 'Have you ever received homemade chocolate?' That doesn't sound specifically romantic to me, but..."

"That's a cultural thing. Homemade chocolate for Valentine's Day. In that context, no. And I guess I don't even need to ask you that."

Though after a moment, Morgan cracked a grin. "39, how important are looks when it comes to attraction? For the record, my guess is not very much at all for you."

"Oh, it happens," Nita countered.

"I just know it's also dumb, to let someone's appearance alone color how you think of them."

Let alone be the only go/no-go sign for attraction.

"Besides, what if we - hypothetical we, don't get cute with me - were meeting for some other reason, that didn't have to do with appearance? I'd be thinking more about weighing something else altogether as a base for my opinion."

"You haven't been casting any glances my way, so." Morgan grinned lazily, well aware that he had good. "Can't be that strong a pull for you. So what does do it for you, then?"

Nita once again aimed at Morgan a Look.

"Assuming we're not talking 'watching characters on a screen'?"

Because she was not giving him free blackmail...

"It's not just what someone wears, it's how they wear it. Confidence is one thing, but arrogance..."

Nita made a face. Massive turn-off, that. Penn had been quite the example in her past experience in terms of behavior not to look for.

Morgan nods to that. "So what does draw you to someone besides some confidence? And how can I do it?" he adds, with a wickedly amused grin.

"A good heart," Nita says, after turning so she's not looking directly at him. If he wants an honest answer, he'll get one - it just may not be what he's expecting.

"Someone who wants to help the people around them where they can. That doesn't want to just go through life suffering, and thinking that's all there is to it.

"They don't have to be a wizard," she adds.

"But it helps. Sharing that, getting to see the world, the difference we make in it just by being here, and why it's worth caring about..."

She trails off, not quite sure where she was going with that.

See. That's exactly why this whole process is worthwhile. Eventually it comes around to something like this, and Morgan learns a heck of a lot more about somebody than anyone would have guessed from a bunch of silly questions.

"You are a wizard. For Mages, a feeling like that is almost mandatory."

If not always for beneficial reasons, but nonetheless.

Nita can't help a wry little smile when he points that out.

"Keeping secrets like that from loved ones isn't a good idea for Mages either, huh?"

Or had he meant that title in a different way, in that they were somehow the same?

"Well, being a Mage means believing in something so absolutely and passionately that you can overwrite what everyone else believes. So wanting to change things for the better, however subjective that is, is pretty hard to escape with such a belief."

Now that drew Nita's attention to point-focus like a hawk.

"Not that I'm one to talk, but what sort of things do you normally change? Or should I make that a general Mage question?"

[morganknight]

"Well, take healing, for example. If you're hurt, I can help by properly aligning your internal energy." Which of course by intellectual standards is proven nonsense.

"You can just... make a way of seeing the world take precedence over all else? And there's no backlash later, when you're focusing on something else?"

Nita was definitely aware that 'aligning internal energy' wasn't how it worked for humans.

[morganknight]

"That depends entirely on how much the world I'm in accepts what I can do, and how obvious I make it that I've rejected a reality to substitute my own. Most people on Earth, for example, wouldn't buy that I can catch a bullet... but they WOULD buy that I could catch an arrow, because movies have conditioned them to believe it's plausible for a skilled martial artist."

Thank you, Karate Kid! Of course, catching an arrow is entirely possible in certain circumstances -- with a lot of practice, a planned stunt, a bow with a low draw weight, a special arrow designed to slow down rapidly. Catching an arrow launched with serious attempt to harm under battlefield conditions? Can't happen, normally. But it's plausible even if it isn't possible.

Nita quirks an eyebrow again at the 'catch a bullet' remark - it's not exactly subtle - but she can follow his logic.

"So it's invoking Suspension of Disbelief, as a force of nature?"

As opposed to convincing a part of nature that a certain kind of change was possible, or even desirable.

"The opposite! It invokes one person's belief against consensus reality to overwrite the laws of physics. But it's easier if people believe it's possible."

"So it doesn't require an audience present, just the pre-existing concept to be in people's heads? Somewhere?"

She could see the upsides, looking at it that way.

[morganknight]

Morgan nodded. "Exactly, though an active observer makes it even harder to do and produces more of a backlash. That's one big reason I mostly live in a realm than accepts magic exists, it means I can do what I want instead of stick to the lines."

Nita manages a bit of a smile at that.

"So in a way, you kind of owe us one?"

Or owe wizardry one, more precisely.

"But I'm assuming a demonstration wouldn't be in the cards for what you had in mind today."

"Sure, I can demonstrate. You might owe me a racy question or two in return," Morgan says, with a wicked grin and enough light amusement that he's clearly teasing instead of making a legitimate threat.

"Hey! You never know, I could have come up with those on my own," she says.

It is absolutely not as likely as she makes it sound, but she's not saying it in the Speech.

"Just warn me if I need to close my eyes or anything first."

Suuuure she would have.

"Why would you need to do that?" he wonders, even as he flips a couple of pens out of a pocket. A casual flick into the air sets them spinning, before he sticks out one foot to catch them -- one vertical on the end of his shoe, then the other perfectly balanced on top of that.

"Y'know, powers of un-observation-" Nita begins to explain, but now THAT is a show!

While her eyebrows go up, she's not here to be a doubter. "I could chalk it up to excellent proprioception, you know," she says, fighting to keep a smirk off her face.
